Chicago

We left for Chicago Monday Morning and arrived around 4 pm. We gained an hour which we had forgotten about and so that was a pleasant surprise!! We didn't really have a plan other than the fact that one of the days, we wanted to meet up with my cousin, Michael.

The night we landed we got to the Hotel- Hardrock Hotel, Chicago and then we walked around the downtown area the hotel was at. The architecture was AMAZING! the buildings were huge and so pretty to look at. I was shocked at how clean the city itself was- for that it reminded me of Boston, for the buildings it reminded me of NYC. Dinner was at Tavern on the Park. It was a very nice restaurant! The food was filling and so yummy along with the beverages. Our service was great too!!

The next day the weather was awesome, little chilly and obviously windy, but hey! It wasn't raining!!!! We decided to take the architectural boat tour. It was a 70 minute tour along the Chicago River which then took you to the line of Lake Michigan. This tour was really neat- our tour guide did a great job and we learned a lot about the buildings. She even pointed out the office building Ferris Bullers dad was working in when the parade scene was going on. Too Cool! We saw some awesome views of the city and i got some amazing pictures!
After the tour we walked around and stopped in to see what the Navy Pier was all about. This reminded me of the Redding Terminal in Philadelphia and Fanieul Hall in Boston put together. It was really cool and very busy. It was here that we had the worlds best Pop Corn! Who knew Chicago was known for their Popcorn...and their Deep Dish Pizza....and their Hot Dogs.....Oh! And their 100 year old Chicken Pot Pie from Macy's!

We continued to tour downtown Chicago the rest of our trip. We purchased tickets for the Hop on Hop off tour (3 day pass) and we basically used it as our taxi! It was cold sitting on the top part of the bus, but that was where the best views were so we sucked it up and enjoyed the ride and the humorous tour guides.

While we were visiting Chicago, we got to meet up with my cousin Mike!!!!!! It was so cool getting to see him- its been since our wedding! We went out for dinner and drinks and then met up with a friend of Mikes at the coolest bar ever, Zebra Lounge! It was a little unique Piano bar that was weird but cool at the same time. I enjoyed it. The Piano Man was awesome!!!!

As always, I get sad when its time to go. We had the whole day to continue to explore the City before needing to go to the air port. We walked around, hopped on hopped off, found the Survivors Garden which is dedicated to Breast Cancer Survivors of Chicago. It was a very nice tribute but I am sure now that the weather is getting warmer, the flowers and trees are in bloom and its even more beautiful.
While waiting for the ride to the air port PJ and I ended our trip with a drink in the loby of the Hard Rock Hotel. Talked about how much fun we had and decided that we want to tour cities we have not seen...our next trip will most likely be San Francisco.... I have been there...but I would love to go again :)

Below are a few pictures from our trip. Hope you like them!

This wins for my favorite picture.

A view of The Sears Tower ..or the Willis Tower from the boat tour.

This is my cousin Mike! He brought me a cool sweatshirt! :)

I just read online that this Marilyn Stature will be moving to Palm Springs on May 7th....

The Navy Pier

THE BEAN! This was a scene from the movie, The Vow. I needed a picture infront of it!

(you'd think this would be in Boston..as that is "bean town"....)

PJ taught me the different types of Columns. These happen to be Corinthian :) I learned A LOT on this trip! I enjoyed it :)

The Chicago River at night (and day) was stunning! Such a  nice City!

We had to try the hot dog......with pickels. It was yummy!

The Deep Dish Stuffed Pizza....SO GOOD SO FILLING!!!

The 100year old Chicken Pot Pie.  It was awesome. I also had the BEST un-sweetened iced tea from here- I still dream about it! So Good...I think they put mint leaves in it...

Fired Zucchini.  I want this right now...
